Places I should have visited when I still lived in London

Big Ben London 1Something incredible happens when you leave a city you have lived in for many years and you move to another ‘completely’ different city. First, you start to wish you did this and that, then you start to imagine that you lived in a great city, then you then begin to appreciate the city you left a lot more, not because your new city is crap, but just because you don’t live there anymore!

According to CNN , London is the world’s second most visited destination. As a former full time resident I missed out on some key Landmarks, the best I did was really visit the parks, Hyde Park and Regents park. OK yes I visited Paradise Wildlife Zoo. Toured the city with my taste buds, got the best eating spots.

Shopped at top shopping spots, Oxford circus, Piccadilly Circus, Westfield (Shepherds bush and Stratford). Visited the British Library, Kew gardens, Buckingham palace, Windsor Castle, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Warner Bros Studio, Somerset house. OK, I did quite a lot but here are some of the things I missed out on, so if you live in London or like me are in and out and not sure where you live these days then be sure to do these this summer!

1.Walk along the south bank of the River Thames

Why? Because it is such a great stroll, you get to see some key the London monuments at the same time. London Eye, House of Parliament and the Big Ben! You can also hop on a boat and cruise on the River Thames. The closest underground station is Waterloo.

2. Visit Tate Modem – Aside from the fact that it is free to visit, you get to see amazing art and views from the top of the building are awesome! Might I add again that it is free to visit. You can see the River Thames, St Paul’s Cathedral, and as far as Canary Wharf and Wembley Stadium.

Some other Museums are the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and the British MuseumNational Gallery.

3. The London Eye – Just because it’s the London Eye! Free to look at but you need to pay to get on it.

4. The Big Ben because it is stunning and has a great history behind it.

5. The Tower of London for the impressive Crown Jewels of England and more history.

6. Westminster Abbey for the sake of history!

7. The Shard – Because it is apparently one of the worlds top 10 most beautiful buildings and since it is the tallest building in the United kingdom you get a great view of London but a pricy view starting from about £20.

8. Big bus tour – Because it is an easy way to see any city complete with audio guides.

9. London Dungeon because it takes you on a journey through 1000 years of London’s history starring actors performing as some of London’s most infamous characters, including Jack the Ripper and Sweeney Todd.

10. Stop at Soho after shopping and eat at some lovely restaurants and cafes. You can also hop on a tricycle taxi on your way there.

11. Madam Tussauds probably should be number 11 but sorry, it just seems a bit too touristy for me after all I am a Londoner! Haha But I hear its great 🙂

As an ex-Londoner myself, I have had moments of regrets for all the things I missed out on doing whilst living there. But looking through your post, I realize that I managed to do a lot actually! I am now inspired to make my version of this post. New reader here BTW and loving your blog xoxo Rabiatu 🙂
